As part of our Water Systems unit in Science, the Grade 8 class from ECI showed their support and awareness of the world's water crisis by hosting a Water Appreciation Walk at one of Rolling River First Nation's traditional lands at Lake Katherine in Riding Mountain National Park.
To prepare, the students made ribbon skirts and vests for the walk in the spring with members of Rolling River First Nation.
An invitation went out to the community of Erickson and area for anyone wanting to join us on the walk, a free lunch of traditional Anishinaabe foods, and sharing of stories about water.
The Grade 8 class would like to thank the staff and students in the canteen, Mr. Lee, Mrs. Collyer, the bus driver, Nancy, Parks Canada staff, parents and students that walked with us, as well as the Jordan's Principle staff from Rolling River First Nation. You all made this a great day of appreciation for the water.
