The varsity girls played in the A Provincial Championships in Somerset last weekend. The girls had a slow start to the tournament going 1-3 in the round-robin finishing fourth in their pool. On Saturday morning the girls faced their rivals from Strathclair in the quarter-final. Our girls came out with a determined effort, and knocked off Strathclair in three sets 25-12, 20-25, 15-13. That win put our girls into the semi-final against another familiar opponent: Elton. The semi-final match couldn’t have been tighter but this time our girls ended up on the losing side of a three set match losing (26-24, 21-25, 15-13). That loss put our girls into the Bronze medal match against Rosenort. Our girls rebounded nicely from their emotional loss to Elton by beating Rosenort in another tight match 25-19, 23-25, 15-9 capturing the bronze medals and the third place plaque. The hard work the girls have put in over the past three months really made the bronze medals well-deserved. It was also a fitting end to the high school volleyball careers of Madison, Kendra, McKenzie, Meagan, Kiera and Jenna. Congratulations to Kendra who was chosen as a provincial championships all-star and also chosen by Volleyball Manitoba to be part of the Graduating All-star event in Winnipeg this Saturday. Thanks to Mr. Bayes for his many, many hours spent coaching our girls.
